Waco, Texas

Journal Entry Date: 15 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: To live in the now is to be free, to plan and remember is to be bound; to be wise is to balance the two states.

Thank you, Lord, for good conversation.

Brought to eye/mind today: Waco, Texas massacre is a sore spot still, a betrayal of human rights in America.

Journal:
>Did laundry today and encountered a well-informed, opinionated person to converse with.
>Took day off, sort of. (note: "b&w, art sup, cs". Have no idea what it means.)

More Light and Snow Slides: Signs of Spring

Journal Entry Date: 14 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: As night alternates with day, death alternates with life; but consciousness persists.

Thank you, Lord, for what I need when I need it.

Brought to eye/mind today: Snow sliding off the roof broke my work table ("art board") on the deck. Snow slides throughout the day frightened cat Squeaker.

Journal:
>Published a number of journal entries.
>Ate steak for dinner.
>Regarding HP, remembering that originally the motherboard worked, just the floppy that didn't.

Of Magic Doors There Is This...

Journal Entry Date: 12 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: "Who ranks as the Highest? One who is not afraid of breaking attachment, who has cast out anger and desire, and lifted the barrier which prevented any forward movement." --The Highest, verses 397 & 398 from David Crosweller's BUDDHIST WISDOM DAILY REFLECTIONS

Thank you, Lord, for my being included at work.

Brought to eye/mind today: morning meditation--
When centering chakras, each one added to (engulfed by) an advancing river of power. At reaching pituitary (middle of brain) saw images of 2 pillars as a doorway and variations, such as an arch containing 2 pillars. A plaque of mine came to mind. It shows silhouettes of trees like pillars in front of a misty field of green grass and bears the message "Of magic doors there is this/You do not see them even as you are passing through." (photographer John Pearson) During breathing--slow & steady--image of spine as a snake. Heard two small, distant voices:
"She doesn't seem to know." said one.
"I know," the other answered.

At closing, perceived chakras arranged as shown in attached gif file. The thickened part at bottom coincides with chakras 3 and 4 (solar plexus and heart); in my understanding of this, intent "pools at the bottom" or "precipitates out (by weight not chemical reaction)."

Journal:
>Overslept but caught up and got to work at a reasonable time.
>Tried to recongfigure Norton Antivirus email checker, but it kept resetting itself to original settings. Don't think it's broken, just working without the little animated icon.

An Intimately Shared Space

Journal Entry Date: 10 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: Keep your eye/mind fixed on your ideal and be steady in your practice.

Thank you, Lord, for warmer weather.

Brought to eye/mind today: The memory-feeling of an encounter while I was working as a clerk at a local store. A German man wearing camouflage (hunters wear it a lot in Alaska), came in and wanted assistance with looking at items in a locked cabinet. As I stood next to him, retrieving articles he wanted to examine, I was embraced by a sense of being enclosed together in an intimately shared space and felt emotionally as well as physically close to him. I knew at the time that he was very likely married and that he came from a social system in which I would be an unwelcome hanger-on. But it was a delightful and intriguing moment. Today I remembered it when wandering mentally into considering what it feels like to be in love.

Also to eye/mind today: Have always been attracted to jewelry that depicts the moon and stars, and both are often depicted in my art pieces. And I've studied astrology. And I orient myself to the North Star in meditation. And I'm always interested in pictures of nebulae. And...

Journal:
>A lot of guys saying "Hi" to me today.
>Looks like spring breakup outside.

Brought to Eye/Mind Today

Journal Entry Date: 09 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: If you think about what you want too much, wanting becomes your way of life. Let it go. Appreciate what you have.

Thank you, Lord, for graphics skills.

Brought to eye/mind today: It occurred to me today that I should talk a little about what "Brought to eye/mind today" means. Basically it's what comes to the surface of consciousness on its own. Like an unexpected remembering. Or an image. Or it may be something that catches my attention and seems to have weight (portent, importance, shine with meaning). Or it may be something I've seen or thought of twice in recent remembering.

Journal:
>MLF set up a new telephone and I did graphic design.

Beauty Sleeps

Journal Entry Date: 08 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: The objective is not necessarily to be virtuous, but to be part of the positive flow.

Thank you, Lord, a moment of timeless peace while tending to the candles for my altar. A moment of relief from time-consciousness.

Brought to eye/mind today: Reading an issue of TIME magazine, saw a photo of a dead boy, his body buried in loamy earth, face partially uncovered . He looked like he was sleeping. It is a powerful image that I will work into a painting (working title: Beauty Sleeps"). The photo brought to mind images from the Dune movies, which were and are for me very powerful. Frank Herbert's DUNE series is a master work.

Journal:
>Working on "Light Occulted" cut off the layer put on previously and put on another one. I'm losing patience with this piece. Today the stapler won't work.

Two Snowplows Dancing

Journal Entry Date: 06 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: It's not that an action is good or bad--how can one know, given a limited perspective. But that the action feels right. This is where the heart steps in.

Thank you, Lord, for javascript success.

Brought to eye/mind today: Stuck in my mind from Wednesday. Saw two snowplows parked at the side of the road, waiting to begin the day's work, as I headed off to work myself. And remembered an earlier winter, when I heard equipment working in my circle. At the window I saw two snowplows dancing together.

Journal:
>At 1st Friday, saw a painting of Chena Ridge in Fairbanks by James Orvik. Could tell it showed spring with the birch trees bushy brown at the top.

Incorrigible Art

Journal Entry Date: 5 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: Be your own refuge, for God is within.

Thank you, Lord, for viable pathways.

Brought to eye/mind today: Dark-haired coquette in Van Gogh's "The Arena at Arles"

Journal:
>It occurred to me that "Light Occulted" continues to return to an uneven surface--not stretched and smooth, as I intend--because that's the way it is and should be. By whose standard, I don't know.

Promises to Keep, Other Promises Broken

Journal Entry Date: 2 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: Learn what is real and what is not, what is necessary and what is not, what is right.

Thank you, Lord, for a new game.

Brought to eye/mind today: I need a day off.

Journal:
>Promised MLF I would help him with his logo and designing his website, and buttons for his site. Want to keep these promises.
>Jim called for MLF and I talked computers with him and joked. He seems so distant and unreal now, not even a friend.
>Being god in my new game, Black & White, can be unsettling.
