A Communal Garden

Journal Entry Date: 1 Feb 2004

Thought for the Day: To stop a downward spiral--anger begets anger, abuse begets abuse, war begets war--stop reacting.

Thank you, Lord, for a sweet love story in the movie "Notting Hill."

Brought to eye/mind today: A communal garden

Journal:
>Now trying "Light Occulted" with cotton lawn instead of organza. Still same problem when finishing with gel medium. The goal is just to get something fairly acceptable and move on.

Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man

Journal Entry Date: 31 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: Since virtue is its own reward, it's best to strive for being effective in what you know is right.

Thank you, Lord, for MLF's effective help.

Brought to eye/mind today: The Sta-Puft marshmallow man in the movie Ghost Busters.

Journal:
>Battled with the latest virus called myDoom. Finally downloaded a patch from Symantec that got rid of it in one fell swoop. Thanks, Mr. Norton.
>Playing an old game, Black & White. Interesting.

How can God be Lonely?

Journal Entry Date: 30 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: "What goes around, comes around" parallels "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". Both refer to cause and effect.

Thank you, Lord, for exercise.

Brought to eye/mind today: At Curves, one of the assistants likes to play Christian rock. One of the songs has a line "Our God is a Lonely God." I get angry every time I hear it. How can one human presume to know the mind of God? How can God be lonely? How self-centered to assume that because you feel lonely, God is Lonely.

Journal:
>Getting to exercise...? Sometimes my cryptic notes are just too cryptic.
>Stargate's Samantha is in love. How cool.

Chinese Take-out

Journal Entry Date: 29 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: "Cleanse your mind of flaws little by little, making sure the job is well done." --BWDR (cited previously)

Thank you, Lord, for a home, my home.

Brought to eye/mind today: Salads in large Chinese take-out boxes.

Journal:
>Brought work home (graphics). Much prefer working with Corel PhotoPaint to PhotoShop; more experienced with Corel, though.
>Worked late, to bed late.

Sericin, Saracen

Journal Entry Date: 28 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: Earth and all its trappings may be an illusion, but it's where we live, move, and have our being.

Thank you, Lord, for procedures and forms posted.

Brought to eye/mind today: The word sericin ("viscous gelatinous protein that forms on the surface of raw-silk fibers"--American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language) vs. the word saracen ("A Muslim, especially of the time of the Crusades"--ibid.)

Journal:
>Helping D.R. with her computer again. Feeling put-upon, I told her this time it will cost.
>Learned Monday that organza is silk, thought it was cotton.

Two Worms in a Cracker

Journal Entry Date: 27 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: What good is overcoming desire if life becomes colorless? The middle way is best.

Thank you, Lord, for Soft Gel found.

Brought to eye/mind today: Two worms in a cracker.

Journal:
>A litany of woes for today
...Forgot my coffee when I went to work
...Found weevil larvae in the crackers I was eating for breakfast
...Problems with posting cds using Linux
...Macros previously set up are haunting me (can't get rid of a control box).

Transpersonal Responsibility

Journal Entry Date: 26 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: "If you are without fear and desire, have no attachments and understand the [Buddhist] scriptures for what they really say, then this birth is your last." (David Crosweller, Buddhist Wisdom: Daily Reflections)

Thank you, Lord, for support from Mary

Brought to eye/mind today: Rudhyar's mandala for 6 Aquarius 06 (this is the astrological position of the sun at Midnight GMT on 26 Jan 2003; have no idea what the tie between this point and today is)--
Phase 306 (Aquarius 6 degrees): A masked figure performs ritualistic acts in a mystery play.
Keynote: The individual's involvement in long-established patterns of activity aiming at the release of collective power.
...This individual is seen having assumed a TRANSPERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
(Dane Rudhyar, AN ASTROLOGICAL MANDALA, Vintage Books, New York, 1974)

Journal:
>Searched online for an artist whose work (worked aluminum panel) I'd admired. Think it's Mary Voltek. Also searched for a supplier of art supplies; need large quantites of Golden's Soft Gel. Found it but up late placing the order.

Beyond Biology

Journal Entry Date: 25 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: A gift given without conditions or hope of some return is priceless.

Thank you, Lord, for clarity w.r.t. current delays.

Brought to eye/mind today: Consider how many strings are attached to the giving of diamonds--man to woman.

Journal:
>Painting that is evolving--triune arch in foreground, in background, barely discernible, a reclining man and woman facing each other. Put an isolation layer on water-streaked wash to protect it.
Working title: "Beyond Biology"
>Organza isn't working for "Light Occulted." Will go to see Mary at ColorCreek tomorrow.

On Vampirism

Journal Entry Date: 24 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: No one escapes criticism. The question is--is it useful?

Thank you, Lord, for a number of journal entries posted.

Brought to eye/mind today: Range of motion. At exercise today, watching a video, the speaker talked about "range of motion." Began thinking about limited range of motion. How many of us think we are limited because we're never tried to move beyond what we've done previously? And how many try to extend their range of motion?

Journal:
>Published Jan 7 through 11 journal entries; felt good afterward.
>Worked on HP Pavilion again; have it narrowed down to the power supply or cable from power supply to floppy (I/O cable replaced).
>Watched movie "Underworld." What is this fascination with a totally fabricated concept--vampirism? Does it draw up ancient memories of blood lines and imbibing an enemy's blood to add his strength to one's own? Where there blood rites in the ancient past? Or does the idea of vampirism refer to one human's emotional demands draining another? Except for the fact that it draws the focus of many people, vampires and the fabricated fables about them are a load of crap. The movie, however, was a nice piece of work. It appears that the Matrix has set the fashion for an entire generation of movies.

Back to Ultrasonics

Journal Entry Date: 23 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: The spiritual is as insubstantial as breath and as vital, as pervasive as air but more powerful.

Thank you, Lord, for an alternate route.

Brought to eye/mind today: Second or third time I've thought of developing an ultrasonic blanket to prevent snow buildup on earth station dishes.

Journal:
>Suggested idea of ultrasonic blanket to my boss. He was not receptive. At home researched methods of protection available. It looks there are effective means for protection available that are probably much cheaper. Maybe not.

The Technological Roller Coaster

Journal Entry Date: 22 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: Only I can master myself and only by the small choices made every day.

Thank you, Lord, for a restful evening.

Brought to eye/mind today: Thinking about how rapidly technology evolves and the impacts that it has on our daily lives. About ten years ago the internet was being born to the general populace. There were not cell phones in general use what--five years ago? Certainly not ten years ago. Each new generation of technology is built on the preceding one and the older generations are as good as dead (try using a computer with an Intel P90 processor in it.)

And the technology seems to consistently make it easier to live isolated lives.

Meantime life appears to be moving at fast-forward, little seems to last. Maybe we need to slow down for our own mental health. Or at least center more on inner, rather than outer, development.

Journal:
>Went to bed late last night (a new computer game), but not so tired today.

One Small Mission Accomplished

Journal Entry Date: 21 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: The sweetness of a moment of full rapport would not be if it happened every day.

Thank you, Lord, for a mission accomplished.

Brought to eye/mind today: Mushy dullness of snow in warm weather

Journal:
>Changing the name of Dolphin Moon Graphics to DolphinMoon Media and the sic code so that it more accurately reflects what I'm doing now (artwork that's not digital). So I went in person to State of Alaska's Department of Commerce office to get the business license, because the online service wouldn't allow the change. What an adventure and pain in the ass. First the office moved to a location across town. The telephone message reported the wrong address, so that's where I went--of course. When I found the new location--downtown where parking is always a problem, I went to three separate floors, looking for the correct office. Then had to rush back to work and stay late to make up the time lost.
>Woke yesterday or today tired to the bone. Think it's because I stopped taking an iron supplement to address anemia. Started taking Dong Quai, but must be careful--it's a strong herb.

Communion

Journal Entry Date: 20 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: What is it you desire? Be clear.

Thank you, Lord, for friendly smiles.

Brought to eye/mind today: Woke thinking about what it is that we seek in love relationships. Often what looks and feels like love is simply biology. Sex at its best feels like communion. And sometimes one is lucky enough to be part of a relationship that incorporates a sense of communion, of life shared easily and intimately. I think we seek relationships to relieve feeling alone, and separate. But we're not alone and separate, just think we are because that's what it looks like. The rational mind is the biggest barrier to communion.

Journal:
>Broke my Acrobat Writer at work, felt beached.
>Today it warmed to 18 degrees above zero.

Posted by mfowl at 12:04 PM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

Only 10 to 13 degrees below zero today

Journal Entry Date: 19 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: Still your mind and experience Nirvana.

Thank you, Lord, for warmer weather.

Brought to eye/mind today: Trees lacy with frost just outside the window.

Journal:
>Researched a replacement for organza online. Linen gauze might work, if not too expensive. Looking for two characteristics--material will shrink and has no sizing.
>Office very cold today.

Warbly Organza

Journal Entry Date: 18 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: I trust my soul to provide; I just do the legwork and stay on course.

Thank you, Lord, for materials to work with.

Brought to eye/mind today: During meditation images of an art piece with knotted cloth, arranged so the knot is positioned at the top and the free portions fan ray-like below. Working title: "Aton, rain blessings upon us"

Journal:
>Began work on new painting, working title of "Eyes in the Desert" or "The Sleeper Has Awakened." (shades of Dune!) By the end of the work period had something completely different from what was planned. Apparently this piece has a mind of its own.
>Also trying to finish "Light Occulted," but organza isn't working. When dilute gel medium is applied, it gets "warbly."

An Island of Warmth

Journal Entry Date: 17 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: At the end of the day, my relationship with my soul is what endures.

Thank you, Lord, for an island of warmth (my home) in a reservoir of cold.

Brought to eye/mind today: Temperature range today -8 to -24 degrees F.

Journal:
>Applied for PFD--an new, more involved process; fixed Movable Type by myself; and generally got jobs done. Good feeling.

Traffic Light

Thought for the Day: Appreciate each person encountered for his/her contribution to the richness and variety of your life.

Thank you, Lord, for progress knitting.

Brought to eye/mind today: Traffic Light

Journal:
>Dreamt about two men pursuing me romantically and a black woman--I think she warned me about something.
>Very cold at work.
>Wrote down "traffic light," have no idea what I meant.

A Beautiful Man

Journal Entry Date: 15 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: Is it happiness we want or freedom from wanting? What need does a given want satisfy?

Thank you, Lord, for my car being done and a paycheck in the bank.

Journal:
>At work encountered a visitor--a beautiful man--two times. He was groomed to perfection and dressed in what was probably a cashmere turtleneck. He had a quiet presence about him, but sensed a snakelike quality--circumspect or devious? Or so beautiful I had to find a fault?

Knit, purl, pull it out

Journal Entry Date: 14 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: "Goodwill towards all is true religion." --Buddha Carita, BUDDHIST WISDOM: DAILY REFLECTIONS

Thank you, Lord, for Sue's openness.

Journal:
>At arising this morning, tired to the bone. Think it's because I'm no longer taking an iron supplement. Started Dong Quai. Feeling better by end of day.
>Knit at MLF's cap and ended up tearing it out--again.

Bad Day in Red Rock

Journal Entry Date: 13 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: When attachment falls away, you know truth.

Thank you, Lord, for days growing longer again.

Journal:
>Insurance company called to say other driver in smaller collision, same day as fender damaged (bad day in Red Rock), is claiming back hurt. In this accident I slid down an incline and my bumper scraped hers. Insurance company is starting an investigation.
>Exercised.

Cold today

Daily Journal Entry: 12 Jan 2004

Thought for the Day: "If you are virtuous & follow a proper life, there will be not wanting in your life. This is in accord with nature." (A. Nikaya via Crosweller, BUDDHIST WISDOM: DAILY REFLECTIONS)

Thank you, Lord, for blog being fixed.

Brought to eye/mind today: A window filled with trees made lacy with frost and a typist working busily in front of it.

Journal:
>Cold today; sounds are louder (footsteps squeek), light is sharp, all is crystalline.
>Took van to Herbie's for repair.
>In PM MLF fixed blog.
